Silfield Oak Primary Academy

Music

It is the intent of the music curriculum to:

  • appreciate a wide range of music through listening and participating
  • sing and play simple instruments with rhythm musically
  • begin to compose using knowledge of instruments, notation and rhythm
  • rehearse and perform

At Silfield Oak Primary Academy, music is taught following the CUSP Music Curriculum, creating the opportunity to practise skills. Children will also be exposed to music opportunities beyond the classroom and will sing regularly as a whole school during assemblies.

Music plays an important part at the life at Silfield Oak as it enhances wellbeing, creativity and brings people and communities together. This ranges from experiencing and enjoying music of different genres to exploring, performing and composing.

We are proud to welcome a Ukulele teacher who teaches Reception weekly and offers community music from the school.

Singing is a key part of the music curriculum which teachers promote throughout the school day. The children will leave Silfield Oak with a wide repertoire of songs they have learnt by heart and exposure to different genres of music.

We have the aim that music at Silfield Oak will make a different to our school community and wider by sharing our love of music and talents. As the school grows, we have the ambition to employ a music teacher to promote music and implement the curriculum to have the maximum impact. See our music development plan:
