Year 1
Foundations for Flourishing …
Our Year 1 curriculum builds and extends on reception, continuing the Foundations for Flourishing approach.
Through a careful balance of direct instruction, enriched interactions and meaningful activities including play and experiences children continue their curriculum journey. The transition from Reception is a carefully planned process bridging the 2 different curriculums, with the children and high expectations at the heart. Our approach to oracy continues to play an important part in the implementation of our curriculum.

Physical development
Physical development continues to be promoted through the curriculum and is crafted through the school day, with carefully planned activities and opportunities for children. Children naturally need to move, the rhythm of our day promote this with regular physical development breaks and movement.
Opportunities and Experiences
For subjects such as Art and Design, D.T. Science, Geography, History and Computing we adopt a modular approach where we teach units across the week.
Whole class teaching of CUSP is enhanced with high-quality and challenging opportunities and experiences planned for the children to interact with the knowledge and rehearse and apply the vocabulary that they have acquired.
